Gingerbread

How was your Christmas? Did you get everything you wanted? Santa was very good to me. I got a load of kitchen goodness, the best of which is a Le Creuset. I’ve already used it. And several new cookbooks… I fear I’ve become predictable.

But that was yesterday. Now we are in No Man’s Land. That week between Christmas and the new year. What do you do during this week? Do you take down the tree or do you wait until January (or February) for that? Do you look back at what you’ve done (or haven’t done) this year? Look ahead to the next year and make your list of resolutions and goals? Make a plan? Or do you sit on the couch with a cat resting her head in the crook of your elbow while you type out a bazillion questions while avoiding what really needs to be done? That’s what I do. Obviously.

a few of my favorite things

Peppermint Bark Cupcake

Peppermint bark cupcake (Devil's food cake with chocolate and white chocolate ganache plus candy cane pieces. Yum.)

Can’t you just hear Maria singing?: Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens… My version would be more like a cross between the Sound of Music and Willy Wonka: Chocolate on cupcakes and powder white snowflakes…

12 days of cookies: sugar cookies

The holiday classic: sugar cookies. Cut out and decorated in bright colors and sprinkles. It seemed a fitting end to the 12 days of cookies.

That’s right, it’s Day 12. Finally. Well, I guess technically it is Cookie 12 and day 17. Not quite what I had intended when I started the 12 days of cookies but you know, life happens.

Now, before you get to the rest of this post let me preemptively answer one question:
No, I don’t have too much time on my hands.

menu for hope 6

menu-for-hope6

I am excited to be taking part in Menu for Hope this year. Menu for Hope is an annual fundraiser that Pim Techamuanvivit of Chez Pim started in which bloggers from around the world donate food related items to be raffled off. All proceeds go to the UN World Food Programme (WFP). In addition to providing food, the WFP helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good. (More information about Menu for Hope can be found on Chez Pim).

How am I participating?

By donating one bid item to the raffle. I call it Brownie Essentials, but you can also think of it as a starter kit. [Continue reading...]

jello spritz cookies

12 days of cookies: jello spritz cookies

This cookie takes me back to college. My roommate PJ returned after the holidays with a stockpile of cookies and generously shared them with me. I’m ashamed to admit I couldn’t stop myself and ate way more than would be considered polite. Thankfully, PJ forgave me. And then gave me the recipe for the one I kept going back for.
