The last few weeks the temperature has been feeling almost fall-like, and I was starting to cook fall-like stuff. You know, soups and roasts and stuff. Then today, I sat there writing a post as sweat rolled down my knee pits, and suddenly soup felt all wrong.
Actually, everything felt wrong except sticking my head in the freezer. While I was in there, I had an idea. It’s not really a recipe, just a little inspiration to help you beat the late-arriving heat.
So I give you the creamsicle float: Put a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream in a glass and cover with orange soda. I like Boylan soda which is made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, but use what you like. Add a straw and enjoy.
Now if you’re feeling a little more ambitious and happen to have popsicle molds or Dixie cups lying around, set a little ice cream out to soften up a bit (just to make it easier to mash into the molds). And layer a little orange soda on top of that. Stick it in the freezer for a few hours. And…
Yum.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to the freezer.

YUM, Love the idea. this might get me throught the heat wave :)
Hot or not I would enjoy something like this all year ’round!
I love floats and these flavors remind me of summer when I was a kid. : )
I just love the combination of orange soda and vanilla ice cream but then a Creamsicle was what I always wanted from the ice cream man back when I was a little girl. Back when you could afford an ice cream from the ice cream man!
