
On the back of the package of butterscotch chips, there is a recipe for Oatmeal Scotchies. While I love oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, I am a sucker for butterscotch. I blame my dad for this. He got me hooked on Brach’s butterscotch discs. And butterscotch sundaes. And butterscotch pudding. Mmm, pudding. I had the best butterscotch pudding last week when Dan and I went to dinner at Bella Luna in Half Moon Bay. The gnocchi was good, but the Ghiradelli butterscotch pudding was… well… it took all of my strength not to lick the bowl clean.

Seventy days. Ten weeks. Two months… no matter how I express how long I have been away from work, it does not match how long it feels. I left work about that long ago. I voluntarily, without coercion or drugs, bid adieu to my job as a software engineer and left my colleagues with dulce de leche brownies. Seventy days. That sounds like a lot of time, but to me it barely feels like two weeks.

Even if the fall weather hasn’t decided to stick around yet, it is time for pumpkins. And spices. And maple cream cheese frosting… then again, when isn’t time for maple cream cheese frosting? If you haven’t tried it yet, go mix some up now, I’ll wait…. right? (pronounced as two syllables like “righ-eet?”). Yep, it is manna from heaven. And I am finding excuses to bake things just to have something to put maple cream cheese frosting on… I made too much when I made the cupcakes so I still have some in the refrigerator. Oh darn.
