100th post: What I’ve learned and my first contest!

by Patricia on April 17, 2009 · 35 comments

Hi there!  Welcome to my 100th post! [Cue the confetti].  It doesn’t seem like I’ve written that many posts, but then looking back through the archive we’ve come a long way in just 100 posts.  And I’ve learned a lot.  A lot.

I’ve learned that:
* I should not be allowed to steam artichokes without adult supervision because I end up with a burnt mess.
* Cupcakes rule.
* You all love breakfast as much as I do. Everything from doughnuts to pancakes to french toast.
* The way to a man’s heart really is through his stomach.  Especially when chocolate is involved.

Those are only a few of the things I’ve learned but I don’t want to bore you with the laundry list of random bits. Seriously, it’s a long list. All sorts of behind the scenes blog stuff like web hosting, WordPress, css, Photoshop, where to get the best light in my apartment for photos, and loads of other things like that…

But now without further ado, my first ever giveaway.  What’s up for grabs:

IMG_7407

That’s a large Oxo cookie scoop and Wilton 12-piece cupcake decorating set. These things really upped my cupcake making mojo, so thought they’d be perfect to share with you.
I use the scoop for everything: it’s the perfect size to fill my cupcake pan, makes (large but uniform) cookies, scooping ice cream, etc. I have a few of these scoops in different sizes because they are so handy. I love them.
And the Wilton kit is great for making:

Hostess cupcakes

filled cupcakes,
Chocolate & Peanut Butter

and all sorts of decorating.

How can you win it? Well, I wanted something clever… you know to ask you a question and have you answer it and pick from the answers.  But honestly, being the first giveaway and all, I think keeping it easy is best.  So… Leave a comment, simple as that.  I’ll post the winner on Monday.  Be sure to leave me your email address (in the comment form, not the comment) or a link to your blog so I can contact you if you win.

P.S.  Don’t forget, the Virtual Great American Bake Sale is still underway…

Congrats on your 100th post.

I just came across your blog when searching for a dessert recipe to make this weekend. I love baking and I do it every weekend to motivate myself to study in medical school. Sometimes I think that I should just quit med school and start a patisserie.

Cheers,
souffle

p.s. who says that guys can’t bake…

Hello,

First Congrats on your 100th Post!!!! and second thank you so much for Brownies For Dinner. I first came across your blog on Yahoo’s Shine with the post of “Time to make the doughnuts. Or is it donuts?” I immediately enjoyed the way you wrote and the way you describe things. I found myself always checking Yahoo Shine to see if you had posted anything new.

You are a great inspiration; I always love to read that people have a passion like mine for baking…It is truly an art.

Again thank you for your blog and here’s to many, many more posts to come!

Cheers!

I love all your cupcakes! They always look delicious! I love to bake but I live in a dorm, so I’m desperately waiting for the summer when I can go home and bake the days away…

Ooh, ooh, ooh – pick me! I love to bake! Okay, so I just started back on Weight Watchers, so maybe you shouldn’t pick me – it’s for my own good. Still, those look really cool and I’d love to up my cupcake game.

Congrats on Post 100!

Came across your website when I Googled “classic red velvet cupcake recipe” and whipped up a bunch this evening. They did not disappoint.

I had an extra surprise when I read your about page and saw that you live in Savannah. My family lives in Richmond Hill and I’m a transplant to Los Angeles, so it’s nice to check out some recipes that remind me of home on your blog.

Great pictures and recipes! Congrats on your 100th post!

Like Melissa, also recently unemployed. But that’s ok, I can now sit here and drool over the delicious desserts on your blog on a daily basis. Congrats on your 100th post. I used to be on my (adoption) blog all the time, but with the wait I stopped. Now I have loads of free time on my hands so I will start up again. Maybe I will get inspired and get back in the kitchen!-Kristen

I love looking at your site! If I got this the first thing I would do with it is, make a filled cupcake! That seems like so much fun! Thanks!

24 Melissa April 17, 2009 at 12:18 pm

Just leave a comment, huh? Well, I have enjoyed reading your blog, I am a closet blog reader! I recently found myself joyfully unemployed and discovered the world of blogs, I love cooking so food blogs are the only ones that interest me. Have fun with your 1st give-a-way. I’ll keep reading yours and trying recipes, I made the Ultimate Cupcakes and with our family of 5, they did not last 24 hours!

Love your Website! I am taking a Wilton Class Right now! And I did my first cake on April 16th. It was the rainbow cake. All my coworkers loved it! What tip is the long tip in the package.

26 Rachel Cotterill April 17, 2009 at 9:49 am

Congrats on reaching 100 :) I sailed past that milestone without really noticing; the rate I seem to write I’ll need to celebrate 1000 before I stop feeling like a newbie blogger! I really must do a contest, though, I haven’t tried that yet.

27 Hannah April 17, 2009 at 1:28 am

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I love cupcakes too! I;d love to win your giveaway, but I’ll keep reading even if I don’t. Following you on twitter too @princesshannah. Looking forward to learning from you for many tweets to come :) Congrats!

Congrats! I just recently discovered your blog and initially subscribed through email. And then, I switched and added it to my RSS feed and cancelled my email subscription on the day that you wrote a post about the number of your subscribers dropping… Haha!

But! I’m still faithfully reading away… Just on my feed instead. :) Keep those yummy posts a-coming. Whoo hoo!
